Salaried And Sessional GPs

For many years salaried and sessional GPs have been encouraged to establish a relationship with the LMC and also look to them to represent their views to PCTs.

We have always seen salaried and sessional GPs as an essential, though perhaps unappreciated, part of the NHS workforce and have supported efforts of our national negotiators to try to bring them more closely within the fold of the NHS family; by allowing them access to the NHS Superannuation Scheme, for instance, and improving their educational opportunities.

Nottinghamshire LMC Ltd has produced a briefing sheet on what we can do for salaried and sessional GPs.

In 2004 the LMC established a Salaried and Sessional GPs Subcommittee to advise the LMC on how best to represent the views of these doctors and cater for their needs. It is currently chaired by Dr Christine Johnson. We also organise an annual conference for salaried and sessional GPs. Click on the highlighed link to find out more about the 2012 event.

The 2010 event featured presentations about reporting poor practice and communication in practice.
